Each of these nine ingredients are known for their restorative and relaxing properties. They can be used on their own or there are many ways to combine them to make customized spa treatments depending on what your specific needs may be. Each of these raw ingredients has specific benefits that make them great for a spa treatment. Let’s explore the main benefits of each of these natural powerhouse ingredients.

Magnesium Sulfate: (also known as Epsom salts): Epsom salts have a high magnesium content and are used most popularly to combat muscle soreness, body fatigue and stress. They are commonly used by athletes to promote muscle recovery and to relieve body aches.

Sweet Almond Oil: Almond oil is rich in Vitamin E which is a powerful antioxidant. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties and is also full of Vitamin A. It is commonly used to soothe and moisturize skin and improve the complexion’s tone.

Witch Hazel: Witch hazel has long been used as a natural remedy due to its high tannin compounds which act as a natural astringent. It is generally used topically to treat a variety of skin afflictions such as bruises, acne, inflammation and burns.

Clay: The clay we use is French Yellow Clay which is also known as kaolin clay. Clay is great for drawing out and removing impurities such as oils and bacteria from the skin. Kaolin clay is one of the gentler clays which make it suitable for use on more sensitive skin types.

Argan Oil: Argan Oil is commonly used topically on the skin for a number of uses due to its high antioxidant content and moisturizing properties. Its superior Vitamin E content helps with healing and relieving minor irritations such as cuts, burns, roughness, dryness and psoriasis.

Eucalyptus Oil: Eucalyptus is known for its purifying and healing properties. It is most commonly used as an immune-boosting oil and in aromatherapy. It helps to clear up congestion in the chest and enable easy breathing in those suffering with sinus stuffiness or allergies.

Bergamot Oil: Bergamot oil is often used in aromatherapy as a mood-boosting oil. It is also known for its antiseptic and analgesic properties. It has a lovely citrusy scent and is frequently used as a top note in fragrances and perfumes. It can also be used in skincare to balance out oily skin.

Frankincense Oil: Frankincense oil has been used for hundreds of years in Ayurvedic health. It is used to promote oral health, relief of joint inflammation, and as an aromatherapy aid to reduce stress and anxiety. It can also boost immunity and help prevent the formation of bacteria.

Lavender Oil: Lavender oil is one of the most frequently used herbal remedies, it has many benefits such as anti-anxiety effects and soothing of the nervous system to promote healthy sleep. It additionally has anti-fungal as well as anti-inflammatory properties when used topically.

Now that you have learned more about the benefits of using each of these natural ingredients, you can select which components you would like to incorporate into your spa treatments. The ingredients included in the Serenity Spa Making Kit can be combined many different ways to create a variety of spa products. You can customize your DIY spa kit products to have all the benefits you need for the ultimate spa day at home. Some of the many products you can create with your Serenity Spa Making Kit are listed below.

        Face Products

Face Mask: You can create a facial mask by combining the jar of French yellow clay with 10ml of lukewarm water. Then, add 10-15 drops of the almond oil and mix well. Apply to your face, wait 10-15 minutes until it dries and then wash off for a purifying mask.

Facial Oil: To create a natural facial oil, start by choosing your carrier oil. Both the argan oil and the sweet almond oil can be used as a carrier oil. Using 5ml of carrier oil, add 1-2 drops of your chosen essential oil. You can choose from the bergamot, frankincense, or lavender oil to add as an essential oil. Choose whichever essential oil is best for your particular skin care concerns.

Facial Steam: For a revitalizing facial steam that can help clear airways and relieve stuffiness from allergies or colds, use the eucalyptus oil as a facial steam. First, boil 3-4 cups of water until it has reached a rolling boil. Then, pour very carefully into a large bowl. Let cool for a few minutes before adding 3-4 drops of eucalyptus oil. Place your face above the bowl, taking care to not be close enough to the steam to burn. Put a towel over your head and the bowl and breathe in the vapours for 15 minutes for a relaxing, invigorating facial steam.

Facial Toner: The witch hazel can be used to create a facial toner by pouring 5-10 ml into the beaker. You can also choose to add a few drops of the essential oil of your choice and mix well to make a scented version. You can use it by applying it to freshly washed skin with a cotton ball.

Lip Conditioner: For a deep conditioning lip treatment, apply 1-2 drops of the argan oil to the center of your palm. With your finger, softly pat it into your lips for a deeply moisturizing treatment. Take care not to ingest it. For best results, try using it before bed to leave on overnight.

Makeup Remover: To create your own natural makeup remover, simply add 4-5 drops of argan oil or witch hazel to a cotton pad and swipe over the areas from which you’d like to remove your makeup. Try using this to remove your makeup before applying your homemade face mask or face oil.

Spot Treatment: You can create your own natural spot treatment at home by mixing one drop of lavender oil with one drop of argan oil. Simply apply to the affected area on the face as a spot treatment to help fight the blemish.

Under Eye Treatment Patches: You can create cooling under eye patches to help reduce the look of dark bags or to help reduce puffiness. To make them, simply take a cotton pad and cut it in half. Then, dampen them with a few drops of lukewarm water before soaking them by adding witch hazel a few drops at a time until saturated. Once they are soaked, place them in the fridge or freezer until you are ready to use them. Simply place the cooled patches under your eyes for 10 minutes to help reduce under-eye puffiness and soothe tired eyes, ensuring not to get the witch hazel directly into your eyes.

        Hair Products

Hair Mask: You can use clay to create a hair mask to help treat heat damage and frizziness while removing any buildup of oils and hair product residue. Mix the jar of clay with equal parts warm water. You may choose to add 2-3 drops of a nourishing oil such as the argan oil. Apply to the hair and leave on for 10 minutes before rinsing thoroughly. Another version of a deep conditioning hair mask that you can create is to apply 10-15 drops of argan oil into your hair, ensuring to concentrate on the ends. Wrap your hair in a towel or a shower cap and leave on for a few hours or overnight. Rinse out thoroughly.

Hair Oil: The argan oil can either be used unscented, or alternatively you can add 4-5 drops of essential oils directly into the bottle. Use the dropper to dispense 5-6 drops into the center of your palms and rub into the ends of your hair to moisturize split ends.

Salt Spray for Hair: To create a spray that gives softy, beachy waves try adding 2 teaspoons of Epsom salts and 5ml of argan oil to a spray bottle. Then, fill the bottle with warm water and mix well until the Epsom salts are dissolved. To create beachy waves, simply spray onto damp hair and scrunch before letting it air dry.

Scalp Treatment: To reduce scalp dryness, itchiness, or flakiness you can choose to use the almond oil, bergamot oil, frankincense oil or lavender oil as a scalp treatment. To use, simply mix 1-2 drops of essential oil to 5ml of carrier oil (argan oil or sweet almond oil) and apply to the scalp after shampooing. Let your scalp treatment sit for 10 minutes before washing it out and shampooing again.

        Body Products

Bath Salts: You can use the Epsom salts to create bath salts to add to your bath to relieve sore muscles and body fatigue. Fill the glass beaker to the halfway point with the Epsom salts. Then, add 5-10 drops of your desired essential oil and mix well. Frankincense oil is great for relieving stress and muscle aches, or try adding the lavender for a great post-bedtime bath. Top off the beaker with more Epsom salts. Simply add your bath salts to a hot bath and soak.

Bath Soak: For a deep detox bath soak to remove impurities from the skin and leave your skin feeling silky, use the jar of clay to create a thin paste by adding equal parts warm water. Mix the clay together with warm water until it has a thin, smooth consistency. You can either mix it with warm bath water as the bathtub fills, ensuring to mix with your hands as the water runs, or you can alternatively spread the clay mixture on your body and let dry for 5 minutes. Once the bathtub is full, soak for 20 minutes, making sure to rinse well in the shower with cold water after.

Body Oil: To create a natural body oil, use the sweet almond oil for your carrier oil and choose which essential oil to add based on which benefits you would like your body oil to have. Using 15ml of the sweet almond oil, add 5-7 drops of your desired essential oil.

Foot Soak: To create a soothing natural foot soak to ease achy feet, follow the recipe above for the bath salts. Try choosing the frankincense oil as your essential oil to relieve muscle stress. Then, fill a large bowl with warm water and your homemade salts and soak your feet as needed.

Massage Oil: To create a natural massage oil, you can either use the sweet almond oil directly from the bottle or add 10ml to the beaker along with 2-4 drops of your desired essential oil to add an aromatherapeutic scent. Try using the eucalyptus oil to help relieve sore muscles. Apply to massaging area with light strokes to moisturize skin as you massage.

Salt Scrub: To create an exfoliating salt scrub, combine two teaspoons Epsom salts with 5ml carrier oil (choose from the argan oil or sweet almond oil.) Then, add a few drops of your desired essential oil. Mix well. To use your salt scrub, massage it onto wet skin in light, circular motions. Rinse well after using. Take care to not scrub too vigorously.

        Other Spa Products

Cooling Spa Towels: For that at home spa experience, make your own cooling spa towels. Simply wet a small hand towel or face cloth with lukewarm water and add a 3-5 drops of eucalyptus oil. Wring out any excess water, and place in the fridge or freezer until you are ready to use them. Once they are chilled, place on the back of your neck or wipe your skin with them to cool down with an invigorating scent.

Cuticle and Nail Treatment: To help moisturize dry cuticles or brittle nails, simply apply 2-4 drops of either the argan oil or the sweet almond oil. Rub the oil gently into the cuticles and nails until absorbed. For best results, try using before bed to leave on overnight for maximum moisturizing effect.

Mouth Rinse: To help freshen breath, reduce plaque and to support healthy gums, try creating a mouth rinse with frankincense oil. It has anti-septic properties to help support oral health. To use, add 1-2 drops of frankincense oil to 30 ml of water. Swish around your mouth for a full minute before spitting it out. Just with any regular mouth rinse, ensure to not swallow any. Make sure to consult with your dentist before trying this at home.

Perfume: To create your own aromatherapy scent to use as a perfume, pick an essential oil that suits your preferences. Try the bergamot oil for a cheery, citrusy scent, or the lavender oil for a calming, floral scent. Simply add 10-15 drops of your chosen essential oil to a spray bottle, fill to the top with room temperature water and shake to mix well.

Pillow Spray: To make a relaxing bed-time pillow spray, combine 10ml of witch hazel with 15 drops of the lavender essential oil. If desired, you can also add a few drops of the frankincense oil for extra stress-relieving properties. Add to spray bottle and fill to the top with room temperature water. Shake the bottle well to combine. Before going to sleep, spray your pillow with a few sprays to help relax the mind and prepare for bed.
